"Rodela" in Spain means - "He who makes wheels." We have a family crest showing 6 wheels with wooden beams going in an angle.

I'm doing this for those who seek to know more about the family of the "Rodela's" and for other family members to either post more of what they know and to hopefully interact with other family. I am a descendant from Juan Barrilla Rodela (my great grandfather) so I'll be starting there and will post more about other descendants later.

Juan Barrilla Rodela was born June 24, 1880 (though it's not fully determined when his exact year of birth is for sure) and died Nov. 10, 1931 in Midway Gulch, Tonoph, Nevada at the age of 51. Now according to an old video footage in our possession of Amelia Torres, she describes the history of the Rodelas' as 3 brothers that came from Spain by boat and traveled to Agua Dulce or Agua Caliente, New Mexico, one of them being Juan B. Rodela. Several resources from others say he was born in Ysleta, Texas. According to the video of Amelia he was born in Spain. We don't know the names of the other 2 brothers, but she described one of the brothers left North America to go back to Spain. The other brother traveled Eastward (which we know he to had many children and as well as grandchildren) and Juan remained in the West where he married twice. First marriage being with Carolina Lujan - born Nov. 1884/85 in Mexico, a Yacci Princess. (daughter of Nostor Lujan), they got married in 1899 and had 7 kids (Josefa, Albert, Juan Jr., Pete, Leonard, Paul and Angelita Rodela) during the first marriage, where they eventually resided in Los Angeles County (San Fernando Valley), California. Juan B. Rodela left Carolina to work up North and eventually met and remarried to Antonia Hernandes and had 3 more kids (Jose, Antonio (tony) and Manuel Rodela). From others information there was also a John Rodela- whom died at a young age and also an Elizabeth Rodela- whom also died at a young age. As I mentioned, this information came from my Father's (Jimmy David Rodela) great Aunt Amelia Torres at a family reunion or a birthday get together where she described the story of how the Rodela's got started. She personally knew all 3 brothers that came from Spain.

Now the reason why Juan B. Rodela birth year is confused is according to the United States census taken on June 5, 1900 it shows that they were living in Morenci, Arizona in the Graham County. The birth of Juan on that census shows him being born Jan. of 1875. Also listed was his wife Carolina Lujan Rodela, their daughter Josefa Rodela and his son Alvino which later became known as Albert Lujan Rodela.

Then the United States census taken in 1920 states that Juan B. Rodela was 38 years old, his birthplace being in Texas and they resided in Los Angeles County, California. His birth according to the 1920 census shows he was born in 1882.

According to his death certificate: state index No. 442, local registered No. 101 State of Nevada. It stated he was born June 24, 1880.
